Why we exist
An invitation should not cost four hundred dollars. The dresses hanging in the boutiques are often made in the same factories, from the same satins and the same laces, as the ones here. What separates them is a showroom on a good street, a wholesale margin and a name printed on the label. We skipped all three, and most of what we carry lands between $90 and $200.
We are not trying to be the cheapest dress on the internet. There is a floor below which a satin stops hanging and starts clinging, a lining disappears and a zip begins to catch. We sit above that floor and stop there.
What we pay attention to

The drape
A satin that hangs instead of clinging. It is the difference between a dress that photographs well and one that does not, and it is decided by the weight of the cloth long before anyone cuts it.

The grading
Every size is cut to its own pattern rather than scaled up from a sample. That is why a US 18 fits like a US 18 and not like a stretched US 6.

The finish
Flat seams. A lining where a lining belongs. A zip that runs without catching. Nobody photographs these. Everybody notices when they are missing.

How it works
Shipping is free everywhere in the United States and takes 7 to 11 business days, tracked from the day it leaves. You have 14 days to send something back if it is not right.
If your event is close, write to us before you order. We will tell you whether it arrives in time, and we will tell you no when the answer is no.
Talking to us
One address, read by a person: support@elsieaugust.com. We answer within one business day, and we will tell you when a dress is not the right call. That conversation costs us less than a return.
